Today is the first of July and the beginning, for millions of people across the globe, of a whole month in which they attempt to go as the name suggests, plastic free. The emphasis is on eliminating single use plastics from our lives which on the face of it seems like it should be easy, but dig a little deeper into your spending habits, and oh my… the places single use plastic crops up!
As a staunch advocate for all that is local, in an ideal world, I would live completely plastic free. But the reality of having a family and two businesses means it creeps into my life in the most insidious of ways.
So I am hoping this July to focus a little more mindfully on avoiding it whenever I can. Interestingly enough a more committed locavore living mindset, dovetails beautifully with a single use plastic free living mindset here in the Barossa Valley.
I am a firm believer in #doyourbestforgettherest so going strictly single use plastic free for the whole house just wont happen this year (as much as I wish it would) but we are going to give it our best shot this first time around, and be kind to ourselves when we slip up.
I would love to hear from you if you are doing plastic free July too.
Wish us luck
